Getting ready for this journey was in itself an adventure. Having only done a short trips into the San Juans and British Columbia the Euphoria crew had to make some changes to the galley and supplies to carry. A watermaker was installed. A must as far as I am concerned. It has provide us with a means to eliminate the need for bottled water and the freedom to not worry so much about how much water is being used. Jim has done an amazing job getting the boat ready to go.
For him, being a live aboard, he first had to share space and give up some of the extra stuff, Husky Game Day items, to make room for Henry and myself. We turn the ever so small shower in the main head into an extra closet, used the hidey holes for extra provisions and finally boxed up all the “gameday” extras to store at the boathouse.
Next was listening and learning from other RHYC members that have made this trip many times. The knowledge and experience they have shared will forever be with us. From what clothing will be needed to making sure to have bug repellent. The lists kept getting longer and longer. Being a list maker at heart, excel became my go to for this trip. My lists included food, clothing, adventure gear, kitchen items, boat spare parts, and Henry items.
For those who have never met Henry he is my wonder dog. A black and white Miniature Schnauzer. He has been coming with us since he was a pup. Not the most social guy so we will see how he does with extra humans and furry friends 24/7 for the next few months.
I will be updating you later on what I actually put on the boat and what I really used. But for now, let’s just say, the bunk room looks more like a grocery store warehouse then sleeping quarters. I did use plastic bins and categorized them into spices, dry goods, can goods, snacks and baking goods. Labeled each of them so that I would be able to find and track what I need quickly. I am trying out bread making as many of the season crews encouraged this as a way to have fresh items on board.
First leg of the journey is through Deception Pass.
